Tammy Robertson, RN BSN is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, and has worked in clinical practice since 2012. Tammy worked in the hospital setting as a floor nurse and after several years of experience with focus on orthopedics and trauma, became disillusioned with seeing the same patients repeatedly coming in, having been admitted for treatment of chronic diseases of lifestyle and diet. She felt unable to affect the root causes of these problems, and began to believe that working in the hospital was not well suited to helping people achieve health. Treatment with pills and procedures was not serving to prevent or even effectively to treat chronic disease, but addressing causative factors held the potential for pursuing optimal health. She then made the decision to move from hospital-based nursing to practice in an outpatient integrative oncology clinic where she could spend more time with patients to educate about prevention of chronic disease.
As an outpatient oncology nurse, Tammy truly grasped the link between diet and chronic disease that she had never learned in all of her nursing education and experience. In order to serve her clinic patients better, she immersed herself in study about lifestyle medicine and the effects of dietary choices upon disease. She and her family, including her beloved chihuahua dog, went vegan in 2014 after a whirlwind of contemplating together the implications for health, the environment and animals.
Tammy has earned a Certificate in Plant-based Nutrition from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, and is a certified Food For Life Instructor for Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine (PCRM). She was one of the 11 signers on the July 2020 letter from PCRM which called upon the U.S. Department of Agriculture to address the enormous problems of racial disparities embedded in the Dietary Guidelines of the U.S.
Tammy is the president and founder of 2 enterprises supporting health promotion in her community: "Cooking On The Veg", promoting culinary medicine and education about plant-based nutrition, and "Robertson Health and Wellness", promoting wellness education and
lifestyle medicine. It has always been Tammy’s passion to help others through teaching and advocacy, and by being exemplary in true health, compassion, vitality and joy for life. Her lifestyle motto is "let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food".
