Sarina Pasricha, MD MSCR received her medical Doctorate from Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago after earning a cum laude Bachelor's degree in Biological Anthropology from Harvard University, and she then proceeded to complete a Master of Science in Clinical Research degree in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. She pursued multiple postgraduate medical training pathways at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, completing an Internal Medicine residency followed by Division of Digestive Diseases fellowships in Gastroenterology/Hepatology (Training Program in Digestive Disease Epidemiology) and Advanced GI Motility, during which she served as Administrative Chief GI Fellow. She practices as a Gastroenterologist Partner at the Delaware Center for Digestive Care in Newark in her native state of Delaware.
Dr. Pasricha has been honored numerous times throughout her medical career journey, such as: as a National Presidential Scholar upon entering Harvard; through an American Gastroenterological Association's Foundation Student Research Fellowship during pre-med studies and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Training Medical Fellowship at medical school; via the Fischer Award for excellence of an Internal Medicine Resident in teaching and mentoring; by appointment to the American Gastroenterology Association Academy of Educators Advisory Board; as a Delaware top doctor for three years; and through the IFAB Women of the World Medicine Award. She also co-founded in 2004 and serves as Co-President of the nonprofit Global Youth HELP (Health Education and Leadership Program) Inc., which cultivates healthy lifestyle and leadership skills with a global perspective, for instance by having trained several thousand tobacco control youth leaders in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Pasricha is the author or co-author of 10 research articles in major peer-reviewed gastroenterology journals, and 27 accepted abstracts. Her extensive research background facilitates her emphasis upon evidence-based approaches and modalities in treating her patients, and her undergraduate-years nutrition focus helped lay the groundwork for her holistic views about managing gastrointestinal diseases, and about the crucial role of the gut microbiome: She believes that healthy and happier life starts with good gut health, and that all is attainable through appropriate diet and lifestyle choices.
Dr. Pasricha completed additional subspecialty training in motility disorders that provided concentrated emphasis on esophageal motility, constipation, fecal incontinence, irritable bowel syndrome and prevention and non-surgical treatment of hemorrhoids, and some of her research work explored genetic risk factors for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Her clinical interests include, but are not limited to, prevention of colon cancer, evaluation and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and esophageal cancer, and women’s wellness and health with a focus on integrative gastroenterology. She educates and lectures about diet and the gut microbiome, the brain-gut "axis" connection, pregnancy and gut health, and the role of food as medicine.
