Michele Crosmer, RDN CSR is a longtime Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition with a degree in Nutrition Science from California Polytechnic State University.  With wide-ranging prior experience as a WIC nutritionist, a clinical dietitian at a major medical center and a renal dietitian at DaVita Kidney Care, she founded Crosmer Nutrition, LLC in 2017 and has provided Medical Nutrition Therapy and individualized or group nutrition education to Chronic Kidney Disease patients or at-risk persons.  She founded the website PlantBasedKidneys.com as an educational resource, and her mission as s practitioner is both prevention of kidney disease and also guiding existing patients in implementing a plant-based diet to help preserve kidney function, optimize health, and delay or avoid dialysis.  She is a National Kidney Foundation professional member, who has served the organization as a Dietetic Intern Preceptor/Mentor, a Fluid Management Advisor, and a Registered Dietitian representative for the Region Point CA area.

With a family history of Chronic Kidney Disease and many formed friendships with clients over the years, Michele has seen first-hand the burden, confusion and discouragement that accompanies a diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease, and she seeks to offer patients hope, encouragement and evidence-based direction about ways to eat that are tasty, sustainable, AND that help protect kidneys long term.  She states that historically, the main goal of renal nutrition was simply to prevent complications that frequently accompany kidney disease, such as anemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia and uncontrolled blood pressure, but recently it has become clear that nutrition can slow or halt the progression of the disease itself, so this is her work's crucial additional aim.  She focuses on the overall dietary pattern and its quality as a whole, not only single nutrients, and develops individualized recommendations that carefully touch all bases while optimizing protective factors obtainable primarily through plant-based nutrition.
