Leigh Frame, PhD MHS presents as part of P-POD's Distinguished Researchers Series, and is a visionary educator and ground-breaker.  In 2020 she was named one of the Top 100 Healthcare Leaders by the International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare, and she believes that it is critical for all health professionals to counsel their patients on the importance of healthy eating as a foundation of well-being.  She serves in multiple capacities at George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences:  as Associate Director of the Resiliency and Well-being (R&W) Center, but also through a joint Assistant Professor appointment in the Departments of Clinical Research and Leadership, and of Physician Assistant Studies.  She previously there served as Executive Director of the Office of Integrative Medicine and Health, and Program Director of Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Frame received her PhD in Human Nutrition, as well as a Master of Health Science degree in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She has drawn upon her wide-ranging experience in biomedical research (from wet bench to clinical settings) to oversee research programs, including the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Parkinson’s Disease Biomarker Discovery Program.  She is the founding Chair of the GW Microbiome Research Interest Group at George Washington University, and much of her ongoing work explores the relationships between nutrition and the human microbiome, and their implications for health and disease.

Dr. Frame is the author or co-author of 19 peer-reviewed original manuscripts, and author of the chapter "Ergogenic Effects of Foods and Nutrients" in the forthcoming 4th edition of "Nutrition in Clinical Practice".  She seeks to bring nutrition and immunity together through clinical/translational research, and further areas of interest include the consequences of malnutrition in obesity, the role of vitamin D as an immune modulatory hormone, research ethics, and social media.  In June 2021 she is serving as Guest Editor for a special issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health entitled “The Lifestyle Medicine Movement:  An Extension of Public Health into Medicine”, for which she authored the featured article “Nutrition, a Tenet of Lifestyle Medicine But Not Medicine?”.
