Kelly Freeman, MSN AGPCNP-BC DipACLM earned her Master of Science in Nursing, her Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner credential and a Nursing Education postgraduate certificate at the Indiana University School of Nursing, after completing a Cum Laude Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Nebraska. She also received a Public Health postgraduate certificate from the Indiana University Fairbanks School of Public Health, where she is now a PhD candidate in Health Policy and Management, and Health Services Research. She is licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse with Prescriptive Authority, and as a Registered Nurse, by the State of Indiana, is certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and is certified as a provider by the CDC Diabetes Prevention Program and the Complete Health Improvement Program. She has also been board certified in wound healing, incontinence and ostomy care.
Kelly serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Science of Nursing Care at the School of Nursing, Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis, where she has taught Health Assessment, Pharmacology, Nursing Intensive, Interactive Processes and Data Analysis. A former lieutenant in the United States Navy, she worked as a medical/surgical nurse, charge nurse and case manager while on active duty. With a background spanning clinical work, nursing education, population health and health promotion, she is focused on translating new knowledge into practice in ways that can provide optimal outcomes in a cost-effective manner. She was honored with the Marcia Plant Jackson Award from the Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana in 2017. She was also the principal author of the "Dementia" chapter in the landmark compilation "Improving Women’s Health Across the Lifespan", published 2022 by CRC Press.
Kelly has long had a strong interest in preventing, halting and reversing chronic diseases, and has been making substantial contributions within the field of Lifestyle Medicine. At the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, she serves as Director of Academic Advancement, previously served as a member of the Board of Directors, and is the Founding Chair of the RN/APRN Member Interest Group, having also founded the RN/APRN Task Force in 2014. She was the Content Expert and Nurse Planner for the 2nd and 3rd Editions of its Lifestyle Medicine Board Review Course, and was awarded President’s Recognition in 2015. She has supported this work as well as Co-founder of the Indiana Lifestyle Medicine Network, and as an Advisory board member for the Global Positive Health Institute. She is also principal author of "Lifestyle Medicine Reimbursement: A Proposal for Policy Priorities Informed by a Cross-Sectional Survey of Lifestyle Medicine Practitioners" and "Lifestyle Medicine and Economics: A Proposal for Research Priorities Informed by a Case Series of Disease Reversal", both published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health in 2021.
