Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh, MD PhD MPH FACP FASN FAAP FAHA FNKF is a triple board-certified physician who studied medicine at the Universities of Bonn and Nuremberg in Germany and received additional MPH and PhD degrees in Nutritional Epidemiology from University of California Berkeley.  He underwent medical specialty training, spanning the fields of nephrology, internal medicine and pediatrics, in Nuremberg, Germany and at the State University of New York (SUNY) and University of California San Francisco (UCSF).  Since 2012 he has served as a tenured Professor and Head of the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Kidney Transplantation at University of California Irvine (UCI) in Orange County, California.  He is also an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health in Los Angeles.

Professor Kalantar-Zadeh has been recognized by several prestigious top/best physician directories in the U.S., including Super Doctors™ and Top Physicians™ through Castle-Connelly.  Since 2014 he has been ranked among the top ten experts in Chronic Kidney Disease and End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) by Expertscape™ at www.ExpertScape.com   He is Past President of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM), and Past President of the International Federation of Kidney Foundations' World Kidney Alliance (IFKF-WKA), and serves as Co-chair of the Steering Committee for World Kidney Day, Chair of the Medical Advisory Council of the National ESRD Forum, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Renal Nutrition.

Professor Kalantar-Zadeh has authored or co-authored more than 900 scientific articles, authored many textbook chapters and created four textbooks.  He has  presented numerous grand rounds as well as lectures in national and international conferences related to kidney disease, diabetes and nutrition, covering a wide array of topics, only a few of which are nutritional and preservative management of the various stages of chronic kidney disease, living well with kidney disease, and dialysis transition and incremental dialysis.
