Dr. Rooke has long seen Lifestyle Medicine as a medical specialty that should be just as important as universally recognized practice specialties such as Cardiology or Endocrinology in the treatment of patients suffering lifestyle-related diseases.  She envisions a world free of such preventable diseases, where all people may enjoy the physical, emotional and social health necessary to reach their full potential.  She established the first Lifestyle Medicine clinic in Atlanta GA, originally under the name Atlanta Lifestyle Medical Center and later as Advanced Lifestyle Medicine, and she previously served as Chairperson of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine's Guidelines and Policies/Standards Committee before Lifestyle Medicine certification even existed.  Her special research interests include:  plant-based nutrition and chronic disease;  lifestyle behavior modification in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes;  improving vitamin D screening among African Americans;   employee health interventions that promote health and reduce costs;  and environmental health.

Dr. Rooke served for several years as the Medical Officer of Health for the Government of Grenada Ministry of Health, and on numerous occasions consulted with or conducted research for the governments of Antigua, Barbuda or Grenada regarding public health matters.  She sustains a global perspective on public health, and continues to be active in the International Commission on Occupational Health.  She has also completed the Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition program produced by T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies.   Her dozens of presentations at conferences and professional meetings down through the years have covered topics ranging widely from anemia to impaired driving, to chronic disease incidence among women, to pathogen exposures in the workplace, to sleep apnea, to sarcoma, to evidenced-based nutrition, to workplace wellness programs, to "Is a Plant-Based Diet the New Hand Washing?
