David Bowman, MD FACLM DipABLM received his Medical Doctorate from Indiana University School of Medicine after earning a Magna Cum Laude undergraduate degree, and went on to complete a Pediatric residency at Children’s National Medical Center, and an NIH Post-Doctoral Fellowship in HIV at Baylor College of Medicine that included eight weeks of pediatric HIV clinical care in Botswana and Uganda. For the next decade, he spent portions of each year in Nigeria and Haiti as a Pediatric Technical Advisor for the Institute of Human Virology, mentoring on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and on pediatric HIV treatment. Following many years of service as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at University of Maryland School of Medicine, he became an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Howard University College of Medicine in 2018, and has assumed further responsibilities there as Assistant Dean of Student Health and Wellness, and Director of the Spiritual Health and Wellness Center. Over the years he has practiced clinically as a board-certified pediatrician in a variety of settings, and he has additionally been board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine since 2019.
Dr. Bowman experienced profound personal health transformations in the aftermath of embracing plant-based nutrition as well as other Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine, and for a number of years he has been passionate and innovative in seeking to empower health care providers, patients, churches and the general public about the enormous potential that these these lifestyle changes offer. He joined the American College of Lifestyle Medicine Board of Director in 2021, and in 2023 became Co-Chair of its Health Equity Achieved through Lifestyle Medicine (HEAL) Initiative and co-authored its "Expert Consensus Statement on Lifestyle Medicine for Optimal Outcomes in Primary Care" that was published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. He was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine in 2024, and he and his wife Keisha launched "Lifestyle Med Revolution" to provide programs and platforms via which individuals and families might pursue substantial and sustainable health advances utilizing plant-based nutrition, physical activity, spirituality and group support.
