Bohdanna “Billie” Zazulak, DPT MS OCS earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University after receiving a Master of Science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University, and since 2003 has held the Orthopedic Certified Specialist credential of the American Physical Therapy Association. She has decades of practice experience as a DPT in sports medicine and orthopedics, including present service at Yale New Haven Hospital, and has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” in her Connecticut region by Women in Medicine. She serves as a Research Scientist and Lecturer in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at Yale University School of Medicine, and as Clinical Research Coordinator for Biomechanics Research Laboratory at Yale University.
Dr. Zazulak has devoted her career to figuring out why so many women disproportionately get injured in sports and everyday life, and for many years she has been a passionate warrior for mobilizing science to help prevent devastating injuries for people in all situations. She was the principal investigator and author of the first published research to establish a scientific link between core stability and reduced injury rates, and she received the prestigious Rose Award from the American Physical Therapy Association for her groundbreaking research. She strongly advocates that women and men be guided in empowering their core, for general health promotion and performance enhancement purposes, but primarily so that fewer injuries will occur in their younger lives, and fewer incapacities will be experienced in their older adult lives. She is the author or co-author of sixteen articles in peer-reviewed medical journals about injury prevention and rehabilitation, and four textbook chapters, and she is a reviewer for seven research journals.
Dr. Zazulak authored "Master Your Core: A Science-based Guide to Achieve Peak Performance and Resilience to Injury", winner of the 2021 Royal Dragonfly Book Award in Sports and Fitness, and the TCK Publishing Reader’s Choice Book Award in Health. Coming on the heels of her peer-reviewed research about core stability, it established her as an innovative leader internationally in the field of injury prevention, which the P-POD Conference declares to be "a frontier of Lifestyle Medicine". Seven of her national and worldwide conference presentations have specifically covered gender disparities in injury risk/incidence or in the response to prevention / rehabilitation measures. She is also a member of the True Health Initiative Council, and has served as a volunteer physical therapist at the World University Games and the Special Olympics.
