Anabelle Broadbent, PhD MS earned her PhD in Biology and Pathogenic Food Microbiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, after receiving there a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Pathogenic Food Microbiology and Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Life Sciences/Biology.  She then completed postdoctoral training at the U.S. Department. of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and later established a distinguished reputation as a pathogenic microbiologist and research food scientist through two parallel engagements spanning most of a decade:  as Senior Scientist/Microbiologist in the Food Safety Intervention Technologies Research Unit of the USDA ARS and as Principal Investigator with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at John F. Kennedy Space Center.  Her work in this period made an enormous and unique contribution to knowledge about foodborne human pathogens, as applicable to safety planning/protocols for the sprouting of seeds (such as for edible sprouts) in indoor and in space travel environments. and for production and storage of food supplies in general during space missions.  She went on to teach lectures and laboratory courses in microbiology, biology and food science for eight years as a professor at five universities and colleges in the southeastern Pennsylvania area.

Dr. Broadbent's Food Science career path over a couple of decades brought her well-recognized technical expertise to bear in government and industry sectors in pursuit of food safety, quality assurance, sensory evaluation of foods, nutritional value, hygienic design, energy saving production  and regulatory compliance.  Since 2020, via establishment of her three-sector Verde Operations (verdeops.com) advisory firm, she has refocused use of this experience based on personally prioritizing directly-health-promoting activity, and has provided food science operational knowledge and support exclusively to plant-based food companies.  Similarly, she secured other preparation and credentialing that would facilitate her educational and leadership roles in advocating for holistic health, such as a Certificate in Plant-based Nutrition from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies, a Lifestyle Medicine Coach certificate from Wellcoaches, and Health and Wellness Coach certification from the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching.

Following her entrance into the research community, Dr. Broadbent came to exemplify more and more the "scholar/athlete duality" pathway, as she developed and refined her middle-to-long-distance running endeavor, infusing it with her steadily growing technical sophistication about nutrition's role, and about the attributes of plant-based whole foods.  Becoming an accomplished national-class competitive runner celebrated as an Elite Vegan Athlete by the Great Vegan Athletes global platform, she returned to compete in her native Puerto Rico, and was honored as 2023 Female Athlete of the Year by the Puerto Rico Masters Association, and won six gold medals in running in the age 55-59 category at the 2024 Puerto Rico Nationals.  She is now additionally certified as a U. S. A. Track and Field (USATF) Track and Field Coach and Cross Country Specialist, and as an RRCA Running Coach, helping round out her offerings in the second branch, holistic health, nutrition, and running coaching services, of her Verde Ops consulting platform.  The third branch, Artistic Expression, is represented by her work both behind and in front of the camera lens, using photography and modeling to capture the extraordinary in the ordinary, thereby shaping the creative process and applying it for activist communication.
